THE HISTORY OF KIKIAOLA
From Cane To Crane
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Waimea was a true plantation town. The Waimea Sugar Mill set the pace of daily life, and the fields ran from the flats at Mana up toward the hills. The Faye family helped shape that era and later carried the legacy forward through Kikiaola Land Company. As sugar started to be phased out, the focus moved to practical work that kept the west side going: construction, property management, and the building the infrastructure that ties a community together. This shift laid the foundation for Kikiaola Construction Company, Ltd. Founded in Waimea , the company kept a simple promise: serve the community with dependable, sensible, and professional work rooted in local values. From the start, the crew took on jobs that required steady hands and clear thinking. House raising. Structural moves. Heavy rigging and crane work. If a project couldn’t afford mistakes, people called Kikiaola. Working in tight-knit towns across Kauaʻi, the team learned to combine careful planning with local know-how and modern tools. A lot of that work protected homes and historic places that hold family stories. Over time, that approach became its own craft culture. New hires learn by working alongside seasoned operators. The shop yard and the job site double as classrooms. Crews plan three steps ahead, keep equipment clean and ready, and show up when the weather turns or a building needs help fast.
